Description

John the Baptist in the Wilderness

This is where it started.

Not in a city. Not in a temple. Out in the wild.

John the Baptist preached in the rough, broken terrain east of Jerusalem—dry ridges, steep drops, and desert heat spilling down toward the Dead Sea. It wasn’t comfortable. It wasn’t convenient. And that’s exactly the point.

People left everything behind to hear him.

This map shows that world—the distance from Jerusalem, the road down to Jericho, and the Jordan River where John baptized. It lets you see the isolation, the terrain, and the setting where Jesus stepped into the water and began his public mission.

The message was urgent. The setting made it unforgettable.

Jerusalem's high ground

Jerusalem stood high in the Judean hills. From there, travelers descended toward Jericho and the Jordan River, passing through increasingly barren terrain on the way. John preached somewhere in this world of desert ridges, deep ravines, intense heat, and open sky.

And people came.

They came from Jerusalem, Judea, and the surrounding countryside to hear John call them to change their lives and prepare for what God was about to do. Many confessed their sins and stepped into the Jordan to be baptized.

Then Jesus came to John.

This map puts that familiar story back into its landscape. You can see Jerusalem, Jericho, the Jordan River, the Dead Sea, and the terrain people crossed to reach the place where John preached—and where Jesus’ public ministry was about to begin.

I might also change the product title from “John the Baptist in the Wilderness” to “John the Baptist in the Judean Desert.” That fits both the map and what the landscape actually looks like.
