STORY BEHIND THE MUSIC

Songs of the Psalms:
New Music to Stream and Download

The Psalms were never meant to sit quietly on a page. They were prayed, shouted, wept, and sung—sometimes all at once. This collection gives those ancient prayers new music, inspired by the Casual English Bible and its honest, everyday approach to Scripture.

New songs from ancient prayers

We still have the ancient words of the Psalms, but the music is gone, lost to the ages. So, today's songs can't recreate the music. But they can capture the message and tone of the ancient lyrics, whether grief, anger, doubt, gratitude, joy, or worship. The Psalms have all of that.

Songs as varied as the Psalms

Psalm 13 is angry; Psalm 23 is trusting. Today's music inspired by the Psalms expresses the difference. Some tracks are quiet and reflective, like hymns and gospel songs. Others pump it up with the tunes and beats of folk, country, rock, and the blues. The message helps determine the style.

Listen first, buy if you like

Listen to a preview, stream the full track on Spotify or Apple Music, or watch it on YouTube. If you like what you hear, buy it from the source. Songs are available individually in MP3 and studio-quality WAV formats as well as in album ZIP downloads. You'll also find sheet music for some songs.

Songs as another doorway into the Bible

This music is for longtime Bible readers as well as folks who never felt at home in the Bible. Listen during your prayer time. Talk about it in Bible study. Play it before reading the Psalm. Get creative. Hear the ancient message and see if you think it's still relevant.
