Description

Sea Peoples on the Move

Around 1200–1500 BC, something shook the ancient world.

A massive disruption—possibly tied to volcanic eruptions, climate shifts, and collapsing civilizations—sent waves of migrants and raiders across the Mediterranean. Historians call them the **Sea Peoples**. They weren’t a single nation, but a loose coalition of seafaring groups searching for land, resources, and survival.

They struck coastlines, burned cities, and overwhelmed kingdoms that had stood for centuries.

Egypt was one of the few powers strong enough to resist them. But even Egypt couldn’t stop the movement entirely. Some of these invaders settled along the southern coast of Canaan. The Bible introduces them under a more familiar name: **the Philistines**.

They become some of Israel’s most persistent enemies.

You meet them in stories about **Samson, Saul, and David**—including David’s famous battle with Goliath. What began as a wave of displaced seafarers became a defining presence in Israel’s early history.

This map helps you see that movement. The routes across the Mediterranean. The landing points. The shift from migration to settlement. It turns a scattered set of biblical references into a single, connected story.
