Samson on the Borderline
Samson grew up in Zorah, near Eshtaol, in the foothills between the Philistine plain and the hills of Israel. That location helps explain much of his story.
He did not live far from Philistine territory. Timnah, where Samson found the woman he wanted to marry, was close by. The Sorek Valley, where Delilah lived, was also nearby. The map shows how Samson’s world sat right between two rival peoples: Israel in the hills and the Philistines on the coastal plain.
Judges 13–16 tells a story full of strength, conflict, desire, anger, and danger. The geography helps readers see why trouble was always so close. Samson lived in the borderland, where a short walk could take him from home into Philistine territory.
