Description

I Won't Dance with the Devil — Music of the Psalms

This is the second album in a musical library of new, original songs inspired by The Casual English Bible's paraphrase of Psalms.

The Psalms were written as songs, but the music was lost long ago. What remains are lyrics filled with praise, anger, grief, trust, wonder, and complaint. This album takes those ancient words and feelings and wraps them in modern musical forms—blues, country, 50s rock and roll, folk, and quieter reflective styles—guided by the tone and emotion of each Psalm.

Some tracks are gentle and prayerful. Others are restless, raw, or unresolved. Together, they reflect the broad range of emotion in Psalms rather than smoothing them out. Not all the psalms are songs for Sunday morning worship or Saturday Shabat. Some are for private moments.
