Nebuchadnezzar’s Dream
Daniel 2 tells one of the most dramatic stories in the Old Testament. Nebuchadnezzar, king of Babylon, was troubled by a dream so disturbing that he could not sleep. He demanded that his magicians, sorcerers, and wise men not only interpret the dream, but first tell him what he had seen.
No one could do it. The mystery was beyond human skill, beyond royal power, and beyond the wisdom of Babylon. But Daniel told the king that there is a God in heaven who reveals mysteries.
Daniel described the dream exactly: a massive statue with a head of gold, chest and arms of silver, body of bronze, legs of iron, and feet mixed with iron and clay. Then a stone struck the statue, shattered it, and grew into a mountain that filled the whole earth.
The dream revealed a sequence of world kingdoms beginning with Babylon. But its final message was bigger than any empire. Human kingdoms rise and fall, but God’s kingdom will stand forever.
