$10.00
See how Solomon transformed Jerusalem into Israel’s spiritual capital.
King David captured Jerusalem, but it was his son Solomon who turned it into the nation’s permanent center of worship. This map highlights the Temple Mount expansion, showing how the city grew from the original City of David to include the magnificent temple that became the heart of Israel’s faith for centuries.
Description
Story Behind the Map
When Solomon became king, he completed the greatest building project in Israel’s history—the First Temple. Built on the ridge just north of the City of David, the temple became the one place where Israelites gathered to worship God and offer sacrifices. To support the new complex, Solomon expanded the city uphill, creating what became known as the Temple Mount.
This map compares the ancient landscape with today’s Jerusalem, helping readers understand how close the City of David, the Temple Mount, the Kidron Valley, and the Mount of Olives are to one another. The Kidron Valley formed the eastern boundary of the city, while the Ophel connected the older settlement with Solomon’s new construction.
The geography explains why Jerusalem became such an important religious and political center. Solomon’s expansion created a city that could serve as both the capital of Israel and the home of God’s temple. Many of the locations shown here remained central to Bible history through the time of the kings, the prophets, Jesus, and the early church.
