Description

The Geography of Northern Israel

Northern Israel was a diverse and mountainous region stretching from the Sea of Galilee toward the Lebanon Mountains and the lands of Aram and Bashan. The landscape included high mountains, valleys, springs, and important travel routes that connected Israel with its northern neighbors.

The map highlights places such as Dan, Hazor, Abel Beth Maacah, Tel Qedesh, and Merom Springs, along with the Sea of Galilee, Jordan River, Bekaa Valley, and Mt. Hermon. These locations help explain why northern Israel was important both geographically and politically.

The city of Dan became one of the northernmost points of Israel, while Hazor was one of the most important cities in the region. The area was also close to Aram (Syria) and Bashan, meaning that northern Israel was often connected to conflicts, trade, and political relationships with surrounding kingdoms.

The region continued to play an important role throughout the Bible. During Jesus’ time, Galilee became the setting for much of his ministry, with places such as Capernaum and the Sea of Galilee becoming especially important. Seeing the mountains, valleys, and waterways on a map makes it easier to understand the geography behind these biblical stories.
