Israel’s Journey Through the Wilderness
After leaving Egypt, the Israelites traveled through a harsh desert landscape where finding enough food and water was a constant challenge. Exodus 16 describes how they left Elim and entered the Sin Desert, where the people began grumbling because they were hungry.
The map traces a possible route from the Nile River Delta and Goshen through the wilderness toward Mount Sinai. Along the way, it identifies several locations connected with Israel’s journey, including Succoth, the possible location of Marah, Elim, the Sin Desert, and Rephidim.
The geography helps explain why this part of the journey was so difficult. Much of the route crosses dry and rugged desert terrain, with limited sources of water. The map also shows the Gulf of Suez, Gulf of Aqaba, and surrounding deserts, giving a clearer picture of the landscape the Israelites had to cross.
