The Arabah Valley runs south from the Dead Sea toward the Gulf of Aqaba. For the Israelites and other ancient travelers, this dry and rugged corridor provided a natural route through a difficult landscape. The map places the valley within the larger geography of Israel, Jordan, and the surrounding desert regions.
Jerusalem and the West Bank sit west of the Dead Sea, while Jordan stretches across the land to the east. Farther south, the Arabah continues toward the Gulf of Aqaba, creating a long north-south passage through the wilderness.
The geography helps explain why this area appears so often in the Bible's stories of travel, wilderness journeys, borders, and conflict. The mountains and deserts surrounding the valley made travel challenging, but the valley itself provided a recognizable route between major regions.
