Israel Leaves the Sea Behind
After the Israelites crossed the sea and escaped Pharaoh’s army, Moses told the people it was time to move on. Exodus 15:22 says they traveled into the wilderness, beginning another difficult stage of their journey away from Egypt.
This map traces a possible route from the Nile River Delta and Goshen through the area identified as the Reed Sea and into the wilderness. The route continues past possible locations for Marah and Elim before heading toward Mount Sinai and eventually the Kadesh oasis.
The map uses the term “Reed Sea” and identifies lakes framed by reeds in the region. The exact location of the biblical sea crossing remains debated, so the map presents one possible geographic setting rather than a definitive location.
The Israelites soon faced the challenges of traveling through the desert. They needed water, food, and direction as they moved farther from Egypt.
