$10.00
One army marched inland, and Israel’s first king marched toward his final battle.
The Philistines gathered their united forces on the coastal plain before pushing deep into Israel. Their advance toward the Jezreel Valley forced Saul into a battle he could not win and set the stage for the end of his reign.
This map traces the Philistine invasion from Aphek to Mount Gilboa, helping readers understand how geography shaped one of the most decisive moments in Israel’s history.
Description
The Road to Saul's Last Stand
Near the end of Saul's reign, the Philistine rulers assembled a massive army at Aphek before marching north along the coastal plain. They then turned inland through the Jezreel Valley and established their camp at Shunem. Saul gathered Israel's forces on nearby Mount Gilboa, preparing to defend the heart of the nation.
The terrain favored the invading army. The wide Jezreel Valley provided excellent ground for Philistine troops, while Saul's soldiers were forced to fight from the slopes of Mount Gilboa. As the battle unfolded, Israel's army collapsed. Saul and three of his sons, including Jonathan, were killed, ending the reign of Israel's first king.
Following the Philistine route from the Mediterranean coast to Mount Gilboa makes the story easier to understand. The map connects Aphek, Caesarea, Megiddo, Shunem, and Mount Gilboa, showing how the invasion unfolded and why this battle marked the beginning of David's rise to the throne.
