Watch the balance of power shift across the ancient Middle East.
Kingdoms rarely stayed the same size for long. Victories, defeats, and changing alliances constantly redrew the map. This map shows Israel, Judah, and Moab each gaining or reclaiming territory during a remarkable period of military success.
Description
Map Description
After years of losing land to powerful neighbors, Israel and Judah experienced a season of expansion. Under King Jeroboam II, Israel pushed north and east, recovering territory from Aram (Syria), just as the prophet Jonah had foretold (2 Kings 14:23-29). Meanwhile, King Amaziah of Judah defeated Edom and captured Sela (Petra), extending Judah's influence to the south (2 Kings 14:7).
At the same time, Moab regained portions of its northern territory after earlier domination by Israel. These changing borders remind us that no kingdom remained permanently strong or weak. Regional powers rose and fell as God allowed nations to gain or lose influence throughout the era of the kings.
This map highlights the political landscape of the eighth century BC, when Israel reached one of its largest territorial extents since Solomon's reign. The geography reveals how strategic valleys, trade routes, and fortified cities shaped military campaigns and the history recorded in the Bible.
