Elijah's Journey to Mount Sinai Map
$10.00
One frightened prophet walked hundreds of miles to hear God’s quiet voice.
After his dramatic victory over the prophets of Baal on Mount Carmel, Elijah expected Israel to return to God. Instead, Queen Jezebel threatened to kill him. Fear sent Elijah running south through Judah and deep into the wilderness until he reached Mount Sinai, where God had once spoken to Moses. This map follows one of the Bible’s longest and most remarkable journeys of faith.
Description
From despair to a new mission
Elijah's journey begins in the northern kingdom of Israel after Queen Jezebel vows to have him executed. He flees through Jerusalem and Beersheba before traveling alone across the harsh Sinai wilderness to Mount Sinai, also called Horeb. There, instead of speaking through wind, earthquakes, or fire, God meets Elijah with a gentle whisper that renews his courage.
God then gives Elijah three important assignments. He is to anoint Hazael as king of Aram (Syria), Jehu as king of Israel, and Elisha as the prophet who will eventually succeed him. Elijah begins the return trip, finding Elisha plowing a field near Abel-meholah and calling him to become his apprentice.
This journey shows that even God's greatest servants can become discouraged. The geography highlights the enormous distance Elijah traveled—from the hills of northern Israel to the lonely mountains of Sinai and back toward Damascus and the Jordan Valley. Along the way, God transformed a weary, frightened prophet into a renewed messenger with a new purpose.
