David Takes Jerusalem Map: Capturing Zion and Defeating the Philistines
$10.00
David’s greatest victory wasn’t just capturing Jerusalem—it was keeping it.
After becoming king over all Israel, David seized the fortress of Jebus and made it his new capital. Almost immediately, the Philistines launched two major attacks to stop him, but both failed, securing Jerusalem as Israel’s political and spiritual center for generations to come.
Description
From Hebron to Jerusalem
This map follows the events of 2 Samuel 5. David first ruled Judah from Hebron for seven and a half years. After all the tribes accepted him as king, he marched north and captured the Jebusite stronghold of Jerusalem, a neutral city located between Judah and the northern tribes. Renaming it the City of David, he established a capital that united the nation.
The Philistines quickly recognized the threat of David’s growing kingdom. They invaded twice through the Valley of Rephaim, southwest of Jerusalem. Both times David sought God’s guidance before attacking. After the second victory, he drove the Philistines from Gibeon westward to Gezer, breaking their military power and ending years of Philistine dominance over Israel.
The geography explains why Jerusalem became Israel’s ideal capital. It sat securely in the central highlands, away from the Philistine chariot forces on the coastal plains, yet remained accessible to tribes throughout the country. David’s victories here marked the beginning of Jerusalem’s rise as the religious and political heart of Israel.
