See how a starving city was saved when God defeated an army without a battle.
Samaria was trapped, starving, and out of hope. Syria’s army surrounded the capital until food became almost impossible to find. Then, in one remarkable night, everything changed without Israel lifting a sword.
Description
Map Description
This map follows the invasion described in 2 Kings 6–7, when Ben-Hadad, king of Aram (Syria), marched west from Damascus and surrounded Samaria, the capital of Israel. The siege became so severe that famine spread throughout the city, and desperate people paid outrageous prices for scraps of food. The crisis revealed just how vulnerable Israel had become.
Through the prophet Elisha, God promised the famine would end within a day. That night, the Lord caused the Syrian army to hear what sounded like a massive force of horses and chariots. Convinced they were about to be attacked, the soldiers abandoned their camp and fled back toward Damascus, leaving behind food, supplies, and equipment.
The geography explains the campaign. Damascus was the dominant power east of the Jordan, while Samaria sat in the hill country of Israel, controlling important routes through the central highlands. This map shows the path of the invading army and reminds us that Israel's deliverance came not through military strength, but through God's unexpected intervention.
