After the Philistines gathered a powerful army at Michmash, King Saul and his soldiers camped across a deep ravine at Geba. Instead of waiting for the odds to improve, Jonathan secretly crossed the rocky valley with only his armor bearer. Climbing the steep cliffs known as Bozez and Seneh, they surprised a Philistine outpost and defeated about twenty soldiers.
The attack sparked confusion throughout the enemy camp. At the same time, God sent an earthquake that added to the panic. The Philistines began fighting one another and fled in every direction. When Saul realized what was happening, he led the Israelite army into battle, turning Jonathan's courageous act into a great victory.
