Abraham and Isaac Travel to Moriah
Abraham had waited many years for Isaac, the son God had promised him. Then God gave Abraham a heartbreaking command: take Isaac to the land of Moriah and offer him there. Abraham, Isaac, and their helpers began the journey from Abraham’s camp near Beersheba, traveling about 50 miles toward Jerusalem.
The map helps put the story’s geography into perspective. The route crosses the rugged hills and valleys of Canaan before reaching the area of Moriah near Jerusalem. The three-day journey would have taken Abraham and Isaac through very different terrain as they moved north from the dry country around Beersheba.
When they reached Moriah, Abraham prepared to follow God’s command. But at the crucial moment, God stopped him and provided a ram instead. The story became a powerful example of Abraham’s faith and trust in God—and the geography helps us picture the real journey behind this dramatic moment in Genesis.
