Ezekiel 35

God promises to wipe out Edom

Ezekiel condemns Edom’s hatred of Israel

1The LORD gave me a message. He said:
2Human, turn and face the direction of Mount Seir [1] in the nation of Edom and condemn it with this prophecy. 3Tell the mountain that the Lord God says this:

I’m your enemy, Mount Seir.
I’m coming for you.
When I leave, they’ll be nothing left of you.
4I’ll tear your town down.
I’ll leave nothing for you.
Then you’ll realize that I’m the LORD.

5You loved hating the people of Israel. When my punishing disaster hit them, you helped kill them. 6You weren’t invited. But you drew their blood. So, I’m going to draw your blood. Since you love blood so much, I’ll give you plenty.

7I will devastate Mount Seir. When I’m done there, no one will be there, and no one will go there. 8I will decorate that mountain range with bodies, killed by the sword. Valleys, streams, hillsides. It doesn’t matter. I’ll leave corpses everywhere.

9When I’m done with your cities, everyone will be done with them. No one will rebuild them. Then you’ll know I am the LORD. [2]

God promises to leave Edom in ruins

10You said the kingdoms of Israel in the north and Judah in the south were going to be yours one day. I the LORD was there in the land you wanted to annex. 11Well, I’m going to give you a dose of your own depth of hatred and envy. To the extent you hated the people of Israel and wanted to steal their land, that’s the extent to which I’ll punish you.

12I heard you insult the people and then rub it in when they were overrun. You taunted them with, “Look at that, they’re annihilated. What’s left of them belongs to us. We can do what we want with them.” 13I the Lord God took that as a personal insult.

14So, here’s what I’m going to do. I’m going to wipe you out while everyone else is saying, “Thank God. Let’s have a party” 15You celebrated when Judah fell, and invaders turned it into a wasteland of ruins. Now, I’m going to wipe you out—everyone in the Mount Seir range and in all of Edom. I’ll leave your land in ruins. And everyone will know that I’m the one who did it.
