Description

David on the run in the badlands

David wasn’t hiding in cities anymore—he was surviving in the wilderness. After fleeing King Saul, he and his men moved south from Gibeah into the rough hills and deserts near Maon. This map shows that harsh terrain, where every ridge and valley offered either protection or danger.

In 1 Samuel 25, David’s men had been protecting the shepherds of a wealthy landowner named Nabal. When sheep-shearing time came—a season of feasting and generosity—David sent messengers asking for food. Nabal refused and insulted him, treating David like a nobody.

Furious, David prepared to wipe out Nabal’s household. But Abigail, Nabal’s wise wife, stepped in. She brought generous supplies—bread, wine, meat, grain, raisins, and fig cakes—and pleaded for peace. Her quick action stopped David from taking revenge and shedding innocent blood.

This map helps you see where it all happened—the long escape from Saul, the rugged wilderness around Maon, and the setting where David learned restraint before becoming king.
