Paul’s Second Mission Trip: The Gospel Crosses Continents

Paul’s second missionary journey marks a major expansion of the Christian movement. Recorded mainly in Acts chapters 15–18, this trip pushes the message of Jesus beyond Asia Minor and firmly into Europe. According to this map, Paul covered roughly 2,700 miles over about three years—by foot, by ship, and along some of the busiest trade routes in the Roman world.

The journey begins again in Antioch, where Paul sets out with Silas to strengthen existing churches. Moving through Derbe and Lystra, Paul adds Timothy to the team. From there, the mission takes an unexpected turn. A vision leads Paul across the Aegean Sea into Macedonia, opening a new chapter in Christian history.

Key stops include Philippi, where Paul is imprisoned and a jailer becomes a believer; Thessalonica and Berea, where synagogue debates spark both faith and opposition; and Athens, where Paul speaks at the Areopagus. The journey culminates in Corinth, where Paul stays for an extended period, teaching and organizing the church.

This map helps visualize the sheer scale of the journey and the cultural diversity Paul navigated. It shows how Christianity moved from a regional movement into an international one—step by determined step.
