Psalm 98
We’ve got a new song
Salvation’s song
1Sing the LORD a brand-new song. For the miracles he has done.
He threw a right cross with a holy arm [1]
And won a knockout fight.
2The LORD saved us,
And made it clear that it was him.
Nations saw it for themselves.
They saw the goodness of God.
3He remembers Israel.
He has been kind and faithful.
The whole world saw God save us.
4Make it loud and make it happy.
Everyone on earth sing to the LORD.
Sing for joy with cheer on your cheeks
Sing your praise songs loud.
5Sing your praises to the LORD,
And someone play the lyre.
Strum the lyre to the melody.
6Add some trumpets, those powerful horns.
And shout for joy to the King, our LORD.
7May the sea roar
And every wet critter in her belly
Join the thunder,
With everyone else in the world.
8May the rivers clap their hands
And may the mountains form a choir
And sing for joy.
Footnotes
198:1
More literally, “His right hand and holy arm won him a victory.” But a right cross with a knockout gets the point across more visually, especially for boxers who know what a knockout looks out from a canvas floor.
