Let’s make some noise
- 1 Come on everyone,
Let’s sing it up to the LORD.
Make it loud. Make it happy.
Sing it to the Solid Rock who saved us.
- 2 Let’s go to him with a song and a thanks.
Sing it loud. Sing it happy.
Someone get the instruments.
- 3 The LORD isn’t just a great God.
He’s the greatest—King of all the gods.
- 4 He can run his fingers
Through the deepest dirt on earth.
Yet he also owns the mountains
From the gravel to the peaks.
- 5 He owns the sea.
Why not? He made it.
His hands created land.
Don’t get stubborn now
- 6 Let’s worship now.
Let’s bow in spirit
To our LORD and Maker.
- 7 He’s our God.
We’re his people,
The sheep on his land,
Led by his hand.
If only you could hear your Shepherd’s voice:
- 8 “Don’t get stubborn and test me
Like your ancestors did
At Meribah Spring1
And Massah in the badlands.
- 9 Your ancestors saw the miracles I did,
Yet they insisted I keep proving myself to them.
- 10 Those people disgusted me for 40 years.
They didn’t have any sense.
They couldn’t see the value
Of listening to the God who saved them.
- 11 I got fed up with them and told them
They’ll never set foot in the place of rest
I promised to give my people.”
On the exodus out of Egypt, the Hebrew ancestors of the Jews complained to Moses about needing water. Moses broke open a rock to reveal a spring. He gave the place two names: Massah, meaning “test,” and Meribah, meaning “complaint” (Exodus 17:7).
